Del Mar Pines School has been accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) since 2007. WASC accreditation is a voluntary “seal of approval” that validates an institution’s academic quality and integrity. WASC  is overseen by a Commission of 32 representatives from a wide group of educational organizations including the California State PTA. It reviews and accredits private and public schools including charter schools, colleges and universities.

The process repeats in a six year review cycle that requires schools to conduct an in-depth self-study and host peer reviews to identify and address areas for growth.  Earlier this year, The WASC Commission granted Del Mar Pines School a glowing accreditation through June 30, 2031. We are very grateful for our teachers, staff, students and parents for helping us with this extensive and very successful accreditation process.

Accreditation is a long reflective process that requires a large commitment of our time and resources. At Del Mar Pines, we constantly strive to know what are the best practices for elementary education while maintaining the traditions and values of our school. WASC visits help Del Mar Pines School to organize the review and analysis with a self-study template our CIA (Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment) team work within.

The goals of the CIA team are to continue to enhance all curriculum areas and resources to maximize the learning experiences of our students. They leverage data to create a uniquely effective student centered learning environment. They assess the curriculum to inform instruction and improve the success, speed, and efficiency of our students’ learning. This team focuses on how students learn and implements the best ways to educate them. We design academic content and instruction by leveraging adaptive technologies, tools, and resources to promote relevance and deep understanding.

The WASC accreditation process analyzes all parts of a school and holds the school accountable to prove what they say they are doing. This process gives us more than Accreditation and “status” as a high-quality academic institution. It offers an important outside perspective on our overall school performance and effectively collects and evaluates input from all stakeholders including parents, teachers, staff and students.

This process has allowed Del Mar Pines School to continually seek ways to improve our curriculum, teaching strategies, programs, and school culture.
